Remember the bacon craze? It might even still be going on for all I know. Anyway, in 2014 we had a party. We got some goodies from TABASCO® through HouseParty.com and tried out three recipes using TABASCO®. Since the party, we've made this Zesty Bacon Cheddar Dip over and over again.
We've brought it as a Thanksgiving appetizer, a Christmas appetizer, a party with our neighbors at their farm, birthday parties, Spring and Summer parties and even just because. This recipe is so easy to make and it makes a ton on a budget.
Aside from the TABASCO®, the key to this recipe (in my opinion) is the bacon. We found the best success with Smithfield Thick Cut Bacon. I've always been a budget shopper, but I splurged on this bacon just for this recipe and it's been our go-to bacon ever since.
Watch for coupons and/or stock up when it's on sale. Smithfield Thick Cut Bacon is totally worth the money. For the record, we bought both Smithfield and Hormel Black Label Thick Cut Bacon the first time we made our party sized portion of this recipe. Smithfield won.

If you want to jazz up the recipe, you can add caramelized onions or fresh green onions (diced or chopped) or use any of the various TABASCO® flavors.
I bet you didn't know TABASCO® had more than one flavor. They do! There's the TABASCO® Green Jalapeno Sauce, Chipotle Sauce (which we also tried in baked beans with bacon), Buffalo Style Hot Sauce, Habanero Sauce for the heat-seekers, Garlic Pepper Sauce and Sweet & Spicy Sauce.
TABASCO® also makes a Bloody Mary Mix, marinades, condiments, chili starters and salsa. You can also find the TABASCO® flavor in Jelly Belly® jelly beans, Cheeze-Its®, Slim Jims, Sachs Peanuts and SPAM®.
I already loved TABASCO®. Now that I know how to use it and that there are so many more options that just the traditional red sauce, I'm using it a lot more, so yes, I love TABASCO®. If you're not a fan of the heat, Chipotle is the way to go.
